Catapalooza! This Sunday

Say that five times really fast -- BACKWARDS. Or, just come to the League's ultimate cat adoption event, this Sunday from 12 noon to 3:00 p.m. Celebrate Valentine's Day at Catapalooza -- create a card for someone special, eat a sweet, or a adopt a cat -- maybe two. A pair of cats are twice the love.

Saving the Baghdad Zoo -- a true story of hope and heroes

I'm conflicted when it comes to zoos. I do not believe that we should keep animals to be spectacles. However, with so many animals endangered, I realize that zoos can help certain species surviive. This is definitely a story of survival. Many, many interesting facts are packed into this book. Several heartbreaking stories detailing animal abuse and neglect are told. I held my breath when I read the book. The stories are gripping. In the end, can I say I felt happy that the zoo was rebuilt and is open in Baghdad today? No. Did Major Sumner and others do the right thing? Yes.
