Pipe Cleaners as Cat Toys and ART!

Cats love pipe cleaner toys. Trolling on the web this morning I found someone who creates animal art out of pipe cleaners. If you haven't seem California based artist, Lauren Ryan's, polar bear and other critters, check them out --
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6j3cY3dPk2U. I was amazed and inspired. I picked up a pipe cleaner and made a wiggly worm and tested it in the cat room. Neither Piper nor Mau Mau were particularly interested in playing with the toy or admiring my artistic skills. They both, however, are extremely interested in finding forever homes.

Saving the Baghdad Zoo -- a true story of hope and heroes

I'm conflicted when it comes to zoos. I do not believe that we should keep animals to be spectacles. However, with so many animals endangered, I realize that zoos can help certain species surviive. This is definitely a story of survival. Many, many interesting facts are packed into this book. Several heartbreaking stories detailing animal abuse and neglect are told. I held my breath when I read the book. The stories are gripping. In the end, can I say I felt happy that the zoo was rebuilt and is open in Baghdad today? No. Did Major Sumner and others do the right thing? Yes.
