Ready for the Weekend!!

Jacky is HOME! She was adopted from WARL in July and her family has kindly sent us regular updates. A lot of the pictures and videos show a very busy Jacky -- gnawing on a bone, taking a walk, but the newest group of Jacky photos capture my sentiments exactly -- snuggling under the covers is the perfect way to end the LONG school week.

Saving the Baghdad Zoo -- a true story of hope and heroes

I'm conflicted when it comes to zoos. I do not believe that we should keep animals to be spectacles. However, with so many animals endangered, I realize that zoos can help certain species surviive. This is definitely a story of survival. Many, many interesting facts are packed into this book. Several heartbreaking stories detailing animal abuse and neglect are told. I held my breath when I read the book. The stories are gripping. In the end, can I say I felt happy that the zoo was rebuilt and is open in Baghdad today? No. Did Major Sumner and others do the right thing? Yes.
