Happy Valentine's Day

My Valentine wrapped up!

My lovable pooch is liking this weather less and less. This morning he flew off the ice-encrusted steps, did what he needed to, and then did his best to hurry back up the steps and dash inside, where he will remain until I force him to take another potty break. The salt trucks came through. No walks for Nigel! Maybe not until June! More snow tonight.

Saving the Baghdad Zoo -- a true story of hope and heroes

I'm conflicted when it comes to zoos. I do not believe that we should keep animals to be spectacles. However, with so many animals endangered, I realize that zoos can help certain species surviive. This is definitely a story of survival. Many, many interesting facts are packed into this book. Several heartbreaking stories detailing animal abuse and neglect are told. I held my breath when I read the book. The stories are gripping. In the end, can I say I felt happy that the zoo was rebuilt and is open in Baghdad today? No. Did Major Sumner and others do the right thing? Yes.

FUN to READ! Wendy Wahman's A Cat Like That

Like her Don’t Lick the Dog – Making Friends With Dogs, Wendy Wahman's A Cat Like That is instructional and tons of fun to read and look at. Wahman’s bright, bold and big cat illustrations and purrfectly precise practical advice “I’d pick a friend who played all the right games, with all the best toys, like a paper bag and catnip mouse, Ping Pong balls and a twirly bird……I’d pick a friend who wouldn’t drag me around….” make for a must read for the pre-school crowd. Read it to someone today!!
